Sister Sara Marie Healy
· Sister Sara Marie Healy, class of 1942, has led an extraordinary life and is a true angel.
· She began her career as an Elementary school teacher.
Teaching was her passion.
· During WWII, Sister became the first Pittsburgh area women to qualify as a ground instructor by the Civil Aeronautics Board.
· She did research with Dr. Falk. You may have heard of the Falk clinic here in Oakland.
· Aunt Sally, as she is affectionately known, nursed burn patients with the Shriners.
· Sr. Sara Marie was called away from teaching in 1953. In those days, the Mother General gave the Sisters assignments to fulfill. Sr. Sara Marie was called to begin the Science in Nursing Bachelors that year, and taught nursing at Carlow for many years.
· Sister Sara Marie wrote, produced, and starred in her own television series, entitled Rx
TLC.
· In 1980, Sister received the Carlow Alum Service through Healthcare award.
· In 1996, she was the Grand Marshal of the Pittsburghs Saint Patricks Day Parade. She was the first woman in over one hundred years to serve as Grand Marshal of the parade.
· Sr. Sara Marie retired just a couple of years ago as Special Assistant to the President of Carlow. Those are just a few of her great achievements. She is 95 years old. She still has great stories to tell. She lives in the convent and loves to visit with people.
